I visited an empty Charity Hospital three months after Katrina. Among the heroic stories I heard was one where a physician and nurse transported by rowboat a premature newborn from Charity to a nearby hospital with a special care nursery. I came away with renewed pride and admiration for the dedicated healthcare professionals who are there in all circumstances to care for all those in need.

All you need to do is recall the same arguments being made when patient safety measures, that we accept today, were first introduced. Progress is slow especially when the same battle is repeated with every advance in patient safety.

At last, a judicial ruling that enumerates the advantages of group purchasing organizations with a clarity and preciseness that even politicians beholden to lobbyists and political contributions from manufacturers cannot dismiss. What is it about fairness, transparency, cost effectiveness and legal conduct that they can't accept or refuse to accept?

That is a great testimony and that is what should happen to keep the industry fresh and up to date. As Kester has said this is one of the objectives of Premier and their hospital partners.

Wow-What a great story. I've said many times that GPOs exist to serve their hospital partners. Part of that service is to help make sure that the best products are made known and available to hospitals. If small vendors have a good product and want to work with the GPOs it would be foolish for the GPO to resist. In fact Premier healthcare alliance is very helpful in this regard by having a national base of clinical experts to help with this process.
